Senior Lecturer in Graphic Design and Illustration, De Montfort University, Leicester.

I specialise in the more Fine Art aspects of design – including printmaking, bookmaking, paper crafts and mixed media. I have responsibility for all of the final year BA Graphic Design / Illustration students.

 2006 onwards: we love your books

Co-founder of we love your books with book artist Melanie Bush. This is a book arts collaboration that hosts and curates a yearly open exhibition. Our website – www.weloveyourbooks.com showcases all the we love your books exhibitions. We are currently accepting entries for our 10th experimental bookworks exhibition. These exhibitions are open to all – professional bookmakers, artists, designers, craftspeople, hobbyists and students. They attract both national and international entries. All exhibits have to be innovative, experimental and well crafted.

Qualifications

March 2009: PhD in Sustainable Design, Kingston University.
This practice-led research involved the production of my own body of work and an exhibition. The thesis explored the use of rejectamenta (discarded materials reused in an artistic context) by myself and a range of contemporary artists and designer-makers.

December 2000: MA in Design, via Independent Study, De Montfort University.
This research formalised my interest in rejectamenta.

July 1989: PGCE and PGDip in Art and Design Education, Leicester Polytechnic.

June 1988: BA Hons Graphic Design / Animation, Leicester Polytechnic.

Summer 1985: Foundation in Art and Design, Hertfordshire College of Art and Design.
