Emma is the co-curator of we love your books. Her work generally tackles difficult subject matter but this is often hidden within imagery, colour or book structures. She is recently enjoying working from a studio at Leicester Print Workshop in the UK. Book Description then:now takes close ups from offset prints from imagery created in response to last year’s theme of intersect and combines these with pairs of offset words. A smaller book is inserted within the larger book to add an additional element of offset. The smaller book structure is cut up and folded in such a way as to offset the imagery even more. Emma’s book was created using wooden letterpress with digital implementation at the final stage. Her words explore the ebb and flow of emotions around the topics of depression, anxiety and fear. It is a physical attempt to make the positives outweigh the negatives though the use of pattern, colour and cropping.

For my crop books I experimented with a combination of letterpress and Letraset type. I left them to dry for a further 6 months and then started photographing them and deciding what to do.

I peeled it back and discovered loads of really lovely patterns and colours. I then cut these into circular pieces, layered them and mounted them together. I then added Letraset type based on emotive words.
